Today while returning from work I stopped by a confectionery shop to buy something. Just then I overheard two friends discussing their fantasies about the future. They were talking about how their college life will be, what they wanted to become, and what kind of life they wanted to live. In their gleaming eyes, I could see the childhood version of me. In one minute while standing there, I recollected every such fantasy that I had about life.
At this point in life, I am still planning my future. The thought of the future inspires and excites me and the past has become my go-to place for peace of mind. But being in the present does nothing for me.
But I wasn’t the only one. On observing closely I noticed many of my friends and family members going through similar problems.
It is a known fact that life is not in the past or future. It lies in the present but still, we spend most of our time working towards a better future. We don’t appreciate our life in the present until it becomes our past. Every second time is slipping through our palm into the bucket of the past.
But what if we start working on a better present?
Instead of going to work just to earn money or have a secure future if we start working because we enjoy it, we will cherish every second of our life. With this attitude and dedication, the future will automatically be taken care of.
Isn’t that true?
Look around you and take a deep breath. Feel your body, your presence in it, and the air passing by you. Feel the silence within you amidst all the noise of the world. Feel the immense pleasure of being healthy, alive, having people to love and take care of you, and knowing that you will not sleep hungry tonight.
This is what life is about. You just lived a few seconds of your life.
